This past weekend, during the not-Super Bowl party, I ended up kvetching extensively about the problems with the automatic grading system that my Computer Science teacher was requiring us to submit to. Issues included not allowing lines longer than 80 characters, taking off points for comments including “To do:”, and requiring overly strict formatting and style options.
In discussion with the teacher today, the class veritably revolted, and the teacher got the message. Apparently, these were problems that he agreed were very silly, and promised to look into the automatic grader’s configuration and see if he could change such things.
What baffles me is why any system developed in a year beginning in “20″ would require these things by default.
