Popular Mechanics has posted a list of the “Top 10 Video Formats HD DVD Will Meet in Heaven”. I was amused to see that one of them is Avco Cartrivision, the prehistoric videocassette format that Bob and I used to record Star Trek episodes in the 1970s. I’m glad it isn’t totally forgotten.
Also listed is the Sony CV-2000, which is described as “one of the first consumer videotape recorders” that “recorded TV shows in black and white on reel-to-reel tapes”. That sounds suspiciously like the recorder we used before we got the Cartrivision. Could it be the same one?
UPDATE: I looked at some photos of the CV-2000, and this one looks very familiar. I think it probably is the reel-to-reel VTR that we had in the early ’70s.
