I see where Marvel superhero Barack Obama has urged Congress to delay the DTV switch, primarily because the budget for the converter coupons has run out.

Maybe I’m being unreasonable, but it seems to me that it’s time to just get on with it. The transition has already been delayed once (it was originally supposed to happen in 2007), and we’ve known it was coming for a long time. How many people out there haven’t gotten the message? Of those, how many are relying exclusively on over-the-air signals? Of those, how many don’t have coupons? Of those, how many can’t afford a $50 converter box?

Sure, there will be a few people out there who will be caught unprepared. But we always knew that would happen, and a delay won’t prevent it. And would anybody’s life be endangered as a result? After all, this is just television we’re talking about here, not the Zune.
