Via SayUncle, an anti-gun screed that concludes with:

Gun nuts love to say that if guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns. I actually don’t see why that’s a problem. It would certainly make it a lot easier to determine who the criminals are. If someone is walking around with a gun, and they aren’t a policeman, then they’re a criminal. Lock ‘em up.

My problem with this opinion is that it isn’t just in the head of this random internet guy. The NCSU branch of Students for Concealed Carry on Campus recently had a meeting where the Associate Vice Chancellor of Environmenal Health & Public Safety (AVCEHPS ?) and the NC State Police’s Watch Commander attended. (NC State is treated like a municipality within Raleigh: they buy electricity as a campus and we have our own police force.)

The first point that the Watch Commander mentioned when he started explaining his views on the SCCC’s goals (repealing state law that bans concealed carry on campuses in order to allow individual universities to decide whether to allow Concealed Carry Permit holders (21+ by nature) to carry) was that in the current system, everyone not in uniform who has a gun is by default a bad guy.

In my notes, I recorded “If they come on scene of active shooter and CCW [carrying concealed weapon] just took out AS [active shooter], cops gonna take out CCW.”

As a part of carry permit training, you’re taught to yield force and authority instantly and without question to police when they arrive. So a CCW doing his thing right, when the Police show up would instantly put his gun down.

But, basically, it’s easier to just make it all illegal so that identifying the criminals is easier. Ugh.
