CNN has the story of recovering Beastie Boy Adam “MCA” Yauch after surgery. In it, he thanked Jay-Z for his cover of “No Sleep ‘Till Brooklyn” and Coldplay for their cover of “(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!)”, which were both performed at the 2009 All Points West Music and Arts Festival.

The first one, I agree with: Jay-Z did a good cover of “No Sleep”, although he seemed hard-pressed to rap at the breakneck pace of the original, which isn’t really his style.

As for Coldplay’s cover, though? Well, first off:

Despite probably being the group’s most famous song, the Beastie Boys have expressed distaste for [(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!)]. In The Sounds of Science liner notes, MCA jokingly says the song “sucks,” though they did not feel the [greatest hits] album would be complete without it. The group has not performed the song live since 1987.

Good selection, guys. Also, the cover turns it in to a down-tempo piano ballad. Really? Boy, nothing says rebellion like a good piano ballad.
